Why Words Matter
An introduction to my intention for this space
Back in the day, in 2006 when I had created a business coaching practice with zero financial ability to advertise my services, I began writing original posts on my website blog. I also became heavily involved in using Twitter and later Facebook to promote my business. This was my only marketing, other than face-to-face invitations for conversations (which worked better than anything.)
Once I started writing, I realized how much fun it was to channel thoughts, ideas and wisdom, bounce it into the stratosphere, and get thoughtful responses from readers. My writing had a purpose: Tell people who you are and how you can help, and they will be more apt to hire you.
When I stopped my coaching practice to care full-time for my mother who suffered from dementia, I mostly stopped writing. I’d occasionally write a newsletter to my mailing list, but the motivation to write was greatly diminished.
I focused on art-making, and started my art business, Great Mother Art, LLC. Writing didn’t seem as necessary.
Today, I realize I am a writer who doesn’t write. My highest core value is creativity, and my life is lived through that lens. Writing is a creative outlet for me, and being stagnant has not served me well.
Aside from writing for self-expression, I know for certain that when I write from my heart, and not from a marketing strategy, I enter a magical space. We seek meaning, and words connect us.
There is a stronger, more authentic purpose for my writing today. My words DO resonate with people. Well-written, thoughtful words designed to share the essence of a person’s (my) soul are what the world needs right now. It’s what I need right now.
This space will be encouraging. If you read my work, you will feel less alone. You will feel other things, of which I am not certain (nor do I need to name). You will be presented with critical thinking prompts, creative experiments, and invitations to serve others.
My promise is to help you discover your creative agency, as that is my purpose for living.
